5 Quicksilver Favorites

I think Quicksilver is about my favorite mac app ever. It does everything! Hopefully you know it can launch your applications quickly and easily, but here are 5 of my favorite things Quicksilver can also do.

1) Quicksilver can control iTunes
Go to Quicksilver’s Preferences. Click the Triggers, and find iTunes on the left. My two most used triggers are Next Song: Option+Command+Arrow Down and Play/Pause: Option+Command+Arrow Up
2) Quicksilver can append to Text files
Prerequisite: Install Text Manipulation Actions Plug-in
Launch Quicksilver(I use Command+Space), then hit Right Bracket/Period. Type any note, then tab over. Type App or until it completes “Append To”. Tab over again and type the name of the file you’d like to append to. Hit enter, and you’ve just added to your text file.
3) Quicksilver can resize images
Prerequisite: Install Image Manipulation Actions Plug-in
Launch Quicksilver and type the name of an image. Tab over and start typing Scale until you see “Scale Image..” Then tab over again, and type your dimensions(640×480 for example).
4) Quicksilver can select multiple files
Launch Quicksilver and type a file name. Now hit the comma key. Notice the file stack up underneath. You can do this as many time as you like. Then tab over. Try typing “Move”. Tab again and type a folder name. You’ve just moved all those files without using the finder.
5) Quicksilver can browse iTunes
Prerequisite: Make sure you have iTunes checked in your Catalog.
If you like controlling iTunes, try browsing from Quicksilver. Start typing Browse and you’ll see you can Browse by Artist, Albums, Genre… Now use the right and left arrow keys to browse. And of course you can type as you go to make it go faster. Then just hit enter to start playing it.
