I’ve been pounding back the energy drinks as always, so I’ve been staring down a mess of empty cans for the past week (I know, I know, I’ll recycle them soon), but what I’ve been thinking about is the term “Sugar Free” I see printed on all these cans.
To start off, I always end up getting the Sugar Free drinks. As far as I’m concerned, the “Sugar Buzz” is a myth, and I go for the energy drinks for the caffeine. Same reason I don’t dump sugar in my coffee. However, there’s this stigma attached to sugar free… It’s not quite as bad as Diet soda, the marketing teams have managed to step up from that, but still… sometimes I feel like they might as well replace “Sugar Free” with “Sissy.” And who wants to drink Sissy Red Bull? Not me!
What I’m saying is there needs to be a marketing team on this issue. Or several. How do you market “Sugar Free” to the male gender? How do you get a man to pick up a “Sugar Free” anything without looking over his shoulder to wonder if anyone is looking? There’s gotta be something much more effective you can print on the can. Especially with male geared names like “Full Throttle” and “Rockstar”, I would think they could do a better job with this. You know who your market is! Now pick up the pace, and turn this stigma in a money maker! Maybe it’s as simple as turning a negative into a positive. “Caffeine Exclusive!”
my wife’s doctor told her she is pregnant to stay the hell away from diet drinks. have a real coke if anything.
I personally love Energy Drinks – I’m a Rockstar guy, not the fruit flavors, pure Robutussin Flavored original Rockstar. I tried drinking the sugar free ones, hoping to cut a few calories out of my diet, and you know what? It makes my heart feel like it is going to explode! No joke. I can drink 3 rockstars and not feel any negative effects (besides the amazing ability to annoy anyone that comes into contact with me), but if I drink half of a sugar free Rockstar, I feel like I’m gonna die. I have no clue why that happens, but it does :S so I try to stay away from Sugar Free.
MMM Hey Matt.. Stay the hell away from aspartame..
Pat is correct there are long term side effects, and I surprised that the FDA has not taken it off the market yet?
However, I do recommend cutting out or cutting back on any type of sugar intake. Due to the fact that it is a very addictive substance.
Actually none of the drink I’m looking at have any aspartame. Either Acesulfame potassium or Sucralose
Acesulfame potassium is the main ingredient in aspertame, and it is actually the part of the poison that is most dangerous. Sucralose isn’t recommended either, but I daresay it isn’t nearly as harmful.
I’m not afraid to pick up a Rockstar Zero which has zero carbs and zero sugar.
These days Diet this and Sugar Free that just don’t carry the same negative stigma for men.
Just my two cents.. But interesting thoughts!

If all else fails, sticking to fabrics like wool, cashmere and flannel will serve you well and ensure you remain snug all through those darker months.

When you think you’re going “diet,” you may not be intaking sugar, that will in turn make you fat, but you’re ingesting a deadly poison, that no doubt will make you feel worse in the long run. May as well just take the sugar, it’s definitely not as dangerous if ingested in moderation.
