two quick notes: this story has been dugg and mentioned on Switch To A Mac.
Sorry, I had to turn off the comments due to spamming. If you have any questions, email me: matt[at]pixelspread[dot]com
The OS 10.4 Apple app AUTOMATOR will probably be even more useful than Applescript. And it’s a lot friendlier.
Welcome to the fold! I swtiched almost two years ago and have zero regrets. Have converted four other families during that time – which means less tech support visits for me : )
You don’t need Final Cut just yet. You get iMovie for free as part of your mac package – test it out, it’ll do for about 90% of most people’s needs. You can get eyeTV and watch Tv on your mac also … if you do end up doing a lot of video, definitely get an external HDD – you will be STUNNED at how easy it is to hook up a mac external. Some are pre-formatted, plug in and it will show up on your desktop – you are ready to go.
There are too many cool widgets to list – so have fun!
Check out Parallels Desktop. I prefer it to Boot Camp since I don’t have to reboot to run Windows so I can use Outlook & Visual Studio and it runs at full speed.
I am in the same boat!
I do Web/Graphic Design & Fine Art. I was a MacUser with a Mac IIsi & System 7.1 when I was more into graphic design. Then I got into Web Design, most of the better tools were on the PC back then, so I sold my Mac and went Windows 98/ME/XP. It is patch the patch all day long…
How well will one of the new 20’ Intel iMacs server me? I need it to everthing my Shuttle SN25P with Athlon 64 3200+ & ATI AIW X600 Pro can do with video editing. I am a CorelDraw & Dreamweaver MX guy looks like will have to go back to Adobe…
Once you try Mac, you’ll never go back! Why? Because Macs just work!
Welcome to the happy side of computing. I switched arond the time when XP came out. My first Mac was Powerbook Titanium 400 Mhz. Guess what? That laptop still works, runs latest OSX and is perfectly usable as Internet surfing, email and iPhoto machine. Don’t try running XP on 6 years old PC laptop.
Finally, a cogent series of statements that are real world-based! This isn’t about proving that one platform is necessarily better at everything; it’s about getting the right tool for the job. Well done!
I am thinking of buying a new computer to replace my old PC.
I read your post and it seems that switching to Mac is a nice move.
MacBook Pro is a bit expensive for me. I am looking at MacBook. What do you think about MacBook? I usually use my computer to access Internet, read & send emails, watching DVDs, handling my photographs from my digital camera (I don’t use Photoshop) and music files (with iTunes). I am not always do graphic design and not always playing 3D games. Do you think a MacBook could fulfill my needs?
One more question, under Windows, we need to use various utilities such as Norton SystemWorks for system maintenance. Does Mac OSX requires you to take more time on system maintenance?
I have a bit more questions but I really want to know your experience in using Mac. I hope to see your reply soon. Thank you.
Mike
