I recently received a beta invite for Joost on the Mac, so I thought I’d post a little review of my experiences so far.
First of all, figuring out Joost is very simple. Download the program, install it, and open it. It will ask your login information, and immediately start playing.
The interface is very nice, appearing with a mouse hover, very much like a video in iTunes. On the left you’ll see your channels(World Strongest Man, Live@Much, Havoc, MTV Stayling Alive, etc…) On the right you have the My Joost section, and in the middle are the video controls where you can pause/play, resize the window, control volume, search,or skip back and fourth between programs.
The My Joost section is filled with Joost widgets, which allow you to chat, get RSS feeds, and Instant Message(on Jabbr and Gmail). You do have to fullscreen for My Joost to work though.
The video quality is surprisingly good for streaming. I prefer not watching it fullscreen, so I don’t have to see too many pixels, but either way it’s definitely watchable.
The buffering time isn’t too long, usually less than 10 seconds. My only major complaint is that commercials show up randomly during shows, rather than in designated places, so your viewing is abruptly interrupted. They are however only 30 seconds and don’t come too frequently, so it’s not that much off a turn off.
All in all, I’m a big fan of the software. I can definitely see myself watching more and more of it, especially if they get some more channels.
And for your enjoyment, here are some screenshots of what it looks like on Mac OS X:

can you post what desktop icons you’re using in that last screen shot?

But when discussing the modern running shoe Hutchinson points out the simple fact that “the shoes caught on.” The author goes on to say, “Given the staggeringly high numbers of people who can’t be bothered to do any physical activity, even so much as a brisk walk, despite the evidence that it’s the single best thing they could do for all aspects of their physical and mental health, I suspect that the barriers to successful barefoot running will always limit it to a fairly small subset of population.”
